5 Things to do in Taupo during Winter

1. Hit the slopes

Probably one of the greatest benefits of living in Taupo or visiting is that you have Mount Ruapehu only an hour drive away. The ski slopes operate mostly 2 - 3 months of the year starting in late June or July to the end of October.

2. Craters of the moon walk

When you live in a geothermal active area its a good idea to go for a walk somewhere where you can have a heater following you, luckily in this walk there are a bunch of steam pockets which let off a blast of hot air.

3. Hot pools

Escape the cold by dipping yourself into the hot pools, Taupo offers 3 main hot pools including Spa Park, which has recently undergone an upgrade. DeBretts hot pools, open 365 days of the year and perfect for family, or relax in quite without kids at the Wairakei terrace hot pools.

4. Shopping

Taupo offers some amazing little stores around the city and every Saturday a fun farmers market with a bunch of great stuff.

5. Go out for lunch

There is a number of great cafes available around Taupo, including Store House, Victorias and more. So many different food boutiques available around the township as well. here are a few options:

If all else fails, you can always jump over to Rotorua and check out the attractions available less than an hour drive away.
