The 50-hectare Onetangi Reserve property was purchased in Feb 1962 at a time when overstocking had caused serious harm to the property and the industrial felling of trees was imminent. Walking paths.
The internal loop monitor system - starting and finishing at the exact same gate - takes a leisurely two hours to complete and traverses the significant vegetation types within this 50-hectare reserve. Some sections of the trail are steep and may be slippery when wet.
You're advised to wear footwear that was heavy.
PLEASE NOTE: This track is presently closed due to prevent the spread of kauri dieback.
The reservation is located on Waiheke Island away Auckland from the Hauraki Gulf. There are frequent ferry crossings to the island.
There are 3 entrances to the reserve: Waiheke Road, Scott’s Terrace & Trig Hill Road.
If you're coming by bus, take it to the Avenue bus stop from Onetangi. The primary Roy Nelson gate is a five-minute walk-up Waiheke Road.
