Rakiura Musium Stewart Island

A visit to Stewart Island is Not complete without a browse throughout the Rakiura Museum. In 9 Ayr Street. Established and run by volunteers, the museum houses a broad collection of things and photos of Stewart Island's ancient history, such as Maori settlement, milkfowl, whale, fishing, lumber milling, mining, boat building, transportation, schools and churches.

Included in the displays is a broad collection of Stewart Island shells and crustacea. Cards, books, Stewart Island mementos are available for purchase. The entrance fee is nothing, you are looking at about $2 for adults and 50 cents for kids.

October to April

Monday to Saturday 10:00am - 1:30pm

Sunday Noon - 2:00pm

May to September

Monday to Saturday 10:00am - noon

Sunday Noon - 2:00pm
