This walk is an intermediate - hard level walk that is worth every moment, the track is 3.9km and will take you just under to complete the track one way, the view from the top of the waterfalls will have your jaw dropping, there is a viewing platform at the base of the walk that you will get to within 1 and a half hours. This walk is not overly hard, because it is well maintained, there are a lot of bridges and streams with views that will make the journey a bit more exciting.
It is hard to describe the view of the falls it is a truly breathtaking experience watching the water plunge the 153 meters drop to the ground, making this one of the biggest waterfalls in the North Island of New Zealand.
if you feel as if you have not done enough of this track you can go a further 30 - 45 through to another look out of the falls, and if that's not enough there is a less maintained track that will take you to the North-South track along the summit of the Kaimai Range.
Things you should know:
This track is located on the west side of the Kaimai Ranges south of Te Aroha, it is just out of Matamata and 60kms from Hamilton.
The track is 5km long and will take 3.5 hours or so return, it is recommended to bring plenty of water and some food for the track. This is not a loop track it is one-way return, with no wheelchair access or dogs allowed.
Toilets are available on site and there is cell phone reception, the track is in good condition with little mud, a bunch of bridges and steps.
there are some big drops including a 90m drop from the top of the fall, so be careful and stay off the edge
You can swim from here and drink from the river if its clear of people and dirt.
