Climb the best view in the Waikato Region to the summit of Hakarimata which lies 374m above sea level, check out the views which stretch from the summit of Mt Ruapehu across to the Kaimai ranges and coast of New Zealand and Auckland city
This walk is an exercise enthusiasts dream, consisting of roughly 1349 steps, this track is not one for the light-hearted, it will have your calves burning with the intensity of 1000 flames and challenge you mentally and physically, for beginners this is a great track for improving fitness levels and getting out in nature.
Spring can offer you sents of Daphne, Alseuosmia Hakarimata or Topara growing beside the track. when at the top of this walk the tower provides good views out towards the coast and surrounding countryside, all the way down to Ruapehu.
How to get there
This track is found in Ngaruawahia, about 1km north along Brownlee Avenue, off Hakarimata Road, it is about a 10 or 15-minute drive from Hamilton.
What will you need?
this track is well maintained which means the only things you will need is a good pair of walking shoes and the keen enthusiasm to make it to the top.
Things to know
the track is not very long, its a 2km return via the same track, and will take you anywhere from 1 hour - 3 to complete, depending on your fitness level. There is no dog access on this track.
