Bridal Veil Falls / Waireinga, Raglan
Last Updated: 15 March 2019
Bridal Veil Falls or in Maori known as Waireinga is a beginner waterfall walk which is located between Hamilton City and Raglan. the walk is only about 2 km long but one of the most spectacular walks to do in the Waikato region. The walk itself is fairly short and has some well-maintained tracks, there are toilets and car parking available on this track, the majority of this track is safe for wheelchairs and buggies.
Before you go you should know this is not a place you can swim and you should not abseil or rock climb the waterfall as to protect native plants and prevent damage to scenery or yourself.
What to expect
This is your typical New Zealand bush walk, you will see a lot of native bush and be walking the majority of the way along a stream to the main attraction the Bridal Veil Waterfall, which is 55 meters high. and has a breath taking the view which can be viewed from the top or bottom of the walk.
When on the walk you have the option of walking down about 20 flights of stairs to get a view from the bottom.
From the bottom of the track, you will be able to see the hard formations of hard basalt rock which was formed from a volcano about 1.5km from the area that happened many years ago.
This is not a very physically demanding track if you are only going one way and is suitable for almost any one of any fitness level, it is a great starting track for anyone wanting to get into hiking or trail walking and is a good family walk.
The track can be extended depending on whether or not you choose to see it from the bottom or top.
What to Bring
You don't really need much on this walk but depending on the weather as hot days may require more water than usual.
My suggestions are to bring.
- Lunch for the look outs and rest spots.
- Good amount of Water
